Microstructural Modification and Characterization of Sericite
نویسندگان
چکیده
Activated sericite was prepared by thermal modification, acid activation and sodium modification, and it was characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis, differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), N₂ adsorption test, thermo-gravimetric analysis (TGA), nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR), and scanning electron microscope (SEM). The results indicated that the crystallinity of raw sericite decreased after thermal modification; the pores with sizes between 5 nm to 10 nm of thermal-modified sericite have collapsed and the surface area increased after thermal modification. The dissolving-out amount of Al3+ reached ca. 31 mg/g in the optimal processing conditions during acid activation; cation exchange capacity (CEC) of acid-treated sericite increased to 56.37 mmol/100 g meq/g after sodium modification compared with that of raw sericite (7.42 mmol/100 g). The activated sericite is a promising matrix for clay-polymer nanocomposites.

Applications of Impedance Plane and Magnetic Differential Permeability in Microstructural Characterization of AISI D2 Tool Steel
Two nondestructive electromagnetic/magnetic techniques including hysteresis loop and eddy current methodologies have been used to characterize microstructural changes of AISI D2 cold work tool steel as a result of quench and tempering treatments. To measure the fraction retained austenite in quenched microstructure, six specimens were austenitized in the range of 1000-1130 °C. Samples austenit...
متن کاملResearch of the Dispersity of the Functional Sericite/Methylphenyl- Silicone Resin
In order to improve the homogeneity and dispersity of the sericite in methylphenyl-silicone resin, the agglomerate state of the sericites was controlled effectively. The dispersive model of the sericite in methylphenyl-silicone resin was designed also. First, the modified sericite was prepared using hexadecyl trimethyl ammonium bromide as the intercalating agent. Then, functional sericite was i...

BACKGROUND Between 1997 and 1999 three sericite plant workers in Parana, Brazil, were diagnosed with pneumoconiosis. AIMS To investigate and describe the radiological, clinical, and pathological changes in miners and millers exposed to sericite dust with mineralogical characteristics of inhaled dust. METHODS The working premises were visited to examine the sericite processing and to classif...
متن کاملModification of Silica surface by Titanium sol synthesis and characterization
Hydrophobic silica titanium nanoparticles (STNPs) were successfully synthesized by the sol-gel process using liquid modification. Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) and X-ray fluorescence (XRF) studies were demonstrated the attachment of titanium on the silica surface. Titanium content enhanced the agglomeration of particles as shown in topography results. The N2 adsorption-desorption followed T...

In the present work, Iranian natural zeolite particles (NZ) as an abundant and low-cost resource were modified by chemical covalent attachments of commercially available stearic acid (SA) with tunable hydrophobic/hydrophilic properties. The versatile, simple, and green technique of mechanogriding was performed for the hydrophobic derivatisation of NZ. The NZ and as-prepared modified particles w...
